Pete Alonso is now rubbing shoulders with Darry Strawberry for most home runs in New York Mets history. Alonso cracked his 252nd home run off the Brewers' Tobias Myers — a 413-foot solo home run to left-center field — in the second inning on Saturday night at American Family Field. He joined Strawberry atop the franchise record book after Strawberry hit the same number between his rookie season in 1983 and 1990. Alonso has tallied the mark in less time, with the feat being accomplished between 2019 and the 117th game of the 2025, with a COVID-shortened 2020 campaign in between. Alonso reached the Mets' record in 963 games, compared to 1,109 contests for Strawberry. The Mets first baseman had moved within one home run on Aug. 4 against the Guardians when he took Slade Cecconi deep for a three-run home run. He made up serious ground as the calendar turned to August, homering three times in the first four days of the month before going three straight games without leaving the park.
